December fourth and my latest manuscript is back from editing over in the States. The story is set in America and it needed to be Americanized. This is always a nervous moment though, as it’s the first time a professionally disinterested person has a chance to give feedback on a story. Editing takes quite a long time, and as it goes on, I can’t avoid a fear growing in me that my editor is going to come back saying it needs major reworking. Then when she doesn’t say this, I worry she must have somehow missed the obvious plot holes, and the fact it’s clearly a hundred thousand words of rubbish!
On the other hand, when I do get stuck into her edits, I’ve also forgotten some of the story, so I get to read it a bit more like a reader would, and less like an exhausted author! That’s what’s happening now. I’m three chapters in and quite enjoying it…
But there’s still a lot of yellow pen to work my way through. I’ll update soon on when it might be ready. In the meantime, I’ll have my editing hat on…
What happened to the real Darren?
Sorry – this is a very late reply and hope you found this page earlier, but just in case anyone else is wondering the answer to this question… There’s a page here that hopefully helps a bit!
